How the scoreboard updates
The scoreboard updates every over during in-progress matches. The scoreboard widget refreshes via polling; the polling window is 30 seconds. The scoreboard displays the official scorecard from the scorers' association; the desk does not maintain its own score entry. Demo data is shown when no live match is in progress.
Pitch reports and curators
Pitch reports are sourced from the venue's head curator. The curator's pre-match briefing is published 4-6 hours before the toss. The desk cross-references the curator's briefing with the historical chase-vs-defend split at the venue over three seasons. Where the briefing is unavailable, the desk uses the historical split and flags the pick as MEDIUM.
Dew note and weather
The dew note is sourced from the local weather service. Dew typically arrives 30-60 minutes after sunset. The desk re-reads the dew note at the 6-over mark of the second innings. The dew note is a chase signal at 7pm+ fixtures in October-March; the toss becomes more important in dew-heavy fixtures.
Toss impact at the desk's venues
The toss is the most controllable signal in any evening T20. 56% of evening T20s at most Indian venues are won by the chasing side. The desk publishes the chase-defend split for ten Indian venues; the split ranges from 53% to 62% chase wins. Chepauk has the highest chase rate at 62%; the desk uses this to bias captain picks towards chasers at Chepauk.
Probable XI methodology
The probable XI is sourced from the team's official announcement where available. Where unavailable, the desk uses the last match's XI, the squad list, and any reported fitness updates. The probable XI is published within an hour of the squad announcement and flagged with a confidence rating.
What demo data means
Demo data is shown when no live match is in progress. Real scores appear once the match starts. The demo data is clearly labelled 'Demo data · fixture window' on the scoreboard widget. Demo data is not used for any contest scoring; it is a placeholder for the widget.
Scoreboard refresh on the app
The app's scoreboard refreshes via push notifications. Push notifications are enabled by default; readers can disable them under Settings → Notifications. The scoreboard refreshes within 10 seconds of any scoring event in the official scorecard.
